What Customers Say About Acoustic Research AW877 900 Mhz Indoor Wireless Speakers (Black):

They definitely sound like wired speakers, and good ones at that. I owned a pair of the earlier model, and was lukewarm about the sound, but this new pair is great. All around, I highly recommend them. I have NiMH rechargeable batteries in them, and they last for a couple months, so the battery draw is low as well. I can place the transmitter in my downstairs and use these speakers out in the back yard, and the reception is excellent. I'm most impressed with the bass AND treble response.

I have mine conneced to a Kenwood receiver and have A-B speaker switches so I can listen inside to normal speakers or outside to the wireless ones. Thanks for the great price and service. I am very pleased with my purchase of the Acoustic Research AW877 Wireless Speakers. I was very pleased with the price and quick delivery by Amazon. I would recommend them to anyone for price and ease of setup.Mike Howe We have a deck outside that is covered and I built two stands that hang from a wall that they are setting on. I have almost no trouble with the wireless system, although a couple of times I have had to "Cycle the power" to them because they had static, but it quickly corrected and they sound wonderful.

Viola. Theater system to turn up the gain on the surround outputs to +10db - that's the trick. Theres nothing you can do to make them work. Quality, noise free wireless sound with plenty of power @ 50 amps. the 1550 comes with two 50 amp wireless amps that need plugging in and hook up to your speakers using regular speaker wire. These work fine as remote speakers when listening to music.

Pop - off they go and they won't come back up unless you crank the volume and even then not for awhile. You then turn the volume down on the remote amps until you get the desired surround volume. The problem comes when using them as surround rear speakers with home theater. At first, I encountered the same problem but with some tweaking found that the transmitter wouldn't cut off if you turn the signal all the way up on it and use the controls on the H. [.]. There is a timer on the transmitter that cuts off the power automatically after a minute or so of low or no signal - a frequent occurence in movies.

However, I returned them and replaced them with Amphony wireless model 1550 which uses existing unpowered speakers.

After trying all the troubleshooting, I isolated the problem to transmitter unit. I bought these speakers about 3 years ago and installed them in my basement and garage. So now I'm stuck with a dead transmitter and two speakers that can only sit there and do nothing. I then called Recoton as directed in the instructions, and was told that there was told that there was no repair facility available for the transmitter. In order to get good sound, I had to set them to mono, otherwise the sound was badly distorted and noisy. About a month ago, they quit working completely.

In one case, I let the static play for 10 seconds or so, and the speaker automatically switched to a different sub-channel to correct the sound. I have the transmitter connected to one of the constant line level outputs on a high-end (although old) TEAC AVG-1500 amplifier, and the sound is muddier than I like. If you don't hold it in long enough, the speaker will appear to turn off, but will come back on after (apparently) tuning to a different sub-channel of the 900MHz band -- which changes the sound quality.

This let me discover the best sound; even reducing some of the booming that seem to characterize these speakers. Overall, I recommend this product to those who are patient enough to work with it for the best sound. On this last point, I think the speakers need a better treble response.

The manual should tell you that the switch on front of the speakers will turn off a speaker only if you hold it in for a few seconds. But you can do more: For each of the three switch settings on the transmitter, I tried several "sub-channel" pushes of the speaker button. For the money, the system is a great bargain.2009mar20(17:14)-sls

Sometimes, this change will be from good sound to loud static. If you get static, just push the button again to "re-tune" the speaker.
